it snowed in ohio yesterday. i did not enjoy being in columbus when it happened.

Posted by juplife on March 9, 2008

we had quite the winter storm in ohio this weekend. you may have even seen or heard of it called the blizzard of ‘08. i love it when they do this. it just makes it so much more intense and exciting. maybe i should start selling ‘i survived the ohio blizzard of 2008′ shirts. they might sell better than my ‘i survived the blackout of 2003′ shirt.

blizzard '08

anyway, we were fortunate that pants and dr arrived safely into columbus friday night. in anticipation of the storm, chuck and i picked them up at the airport and we all stayed at cousin brian’s place. the plan was to go to chris dyer’s hockey game saturday. however, the snow kind of ruined that plan. instead we slept in and played some euchre with uncle mark.

this photo is going to be on juplife!

we eventually did drive home. the roads were difficult until about marion. the rest of the drive there was at least one decent lane. it was the longest columbus drive of the week, clocking out at about 4.5 hours. i really hope things start to heat up a little bit soon.

i like it when you look at the photos i post.

pants is a miracle: scanned clean again

Posted by juplife on February 25, 2008

pants went into johns hopkins again today for a scan. it’s always kind of scary when she has to do this. fortunately, once again the scan showed that there was no measurable disease. she already received her vaccination today and will go back in every day this week for more tests and measurements.

pants truly is a miracle. we should not be this lucky. but thanks to the prayers and support of friends, and first class medical work, we have been.

some facts about pancreatic cancer:

  • pancreatic cancer has the number 1 highest fatality rate of all cancers
  • pancreatic cancer does not discriminate by age, gender, or race
  • the average life expectancy after being diagnosed with metastic deisease is just 3-6 months
  • the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 4%
  • you can deliver all meals directly to john. he enjoys most foods and desserts.

party at the pozes: eating 13 peanut butter brownies was a good idea

Posted by juplife on February 10, 2008

pozes
pants, chuck and i headed over to the pozes last night for dinner and euchre. kate poz, the pregnant one, was the reason for the weekend as she had the first of her three baby showers. beth, being a good sister, came in for the fun. meg did not. she’ll regret that next weekend when all attention is focused on this pete character.dinner was excellent. d made some fancy mac and cheese and pants brought her jambalaya. the main event at the pozes is always dessert though. d made a tray of peanut butter brownies. i ate all of them but 2.5. and chuck made his famous rum cake. the pozes we’re excited to see that one.after dinner we were a little short handed and didn’t have the euchre event we were hoping for. thanks to pregnant brain and my first weekend out of detox, kate and i were swept by the edge and beth. at least the edge still gave me a nice old suit of his and this creeper rain coat. you’ll be sure to see me wearing it soon with just my briefs and chucks.

book list: empire falls by richard russo

Posted by juplife on December 1, 2007

just finished a book recommended by pants, empire falls. it was an excellent book and i really enjoyed russo’s writing. however, the ending kind of let me down. it was terrible, just not what i was looking for. despite the ending, russo came through with many worthy quotes such as this one:

if you had any idea how awful a bad woman can be, you’d become a priest rather than take any such chance. p. 475

it took me too long to finish this book. now it’s on to my all time favorite, the perks of being a wallflower. i need it to recharge.

toledo toboggan: drewmeister is clutch, pleases pants by forcing complete redesign of rohn’s room

Posted by juplife on November 1, 2007

last week drew told me about a big sale going on at the toledo museum for employees only. i made a quick suggestion that if he run into any of warhol’s soup art i’d appreciate it if he could pick it up for me. luckily, he incorrectly assumed that all of the warhol merch had been purchased. cause on monday he called me with the good news that there was one last poster he was able to pick up for me. it’s beautiful, i love it, wonderful, so original.

the addition of the campbell’s soup poster to my collection forced me to reconsidered the poster arrangement due to space. since i was rearranging all of my pictures and posters, i figured, much to the delight of the ever controlling pants, i might as well rearrange my entire room. as a result, my room now looks as pictured below.

previously my bed was where my desk was. for some reason, pants insisted that the bed needs to go along the largest wall. now that it is, i feel like i have much less space in my room. at least it forced me to reorganize and clean the space i have.

i’ve held onto most of the old photos and clippings that were on the wall previously. coincidentally, i discovered that many of the photos on the wall were blank on the back. this means that i probably didn’t need to buy photos on monday to send more postcards. it does mean that i’ll be sending more postcard pictures though. so if you want one, send me your address and i’ll guarantee to get you one within a month.

you can hope or you can help…wear purple for pants

Posted by juplife on September 28, 2007

we finally received the pancreatic cancer bracelets yesterday that we ordered two weeks ago. pants has been eagerly awaiting these. they are slightly larger than the ones she picked up at MD Anderson in houston, but not so big that they’ll drop to your elbow. very fashionable!

they come in a batch of 20. so if you live in toledo and want one let us know. if not, you can order some online from the hirshberg foundation. as they say on the wrist bands, you can hope or you can help. so please help those with pancreatic cancer, a very understudied cancer.

a few facts:

  • pancreatic cancer has the number 1 highest fatality rate of all cancers
  • pancreatic cancer does not discriminate by age, gender, or race
  • the average life expectancy after being diagnosed with metastic deisease is just 3-6 months
  • the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 4%

pants has already beat the odds by making it over a year already. with your support she will outlive all the odds.

edit: when i notified the hirshberg foundation that the first shipment wasn’t delivered, they were great in responding to me and making sure they got me the wrist bands quickly. thanks lisa.
