this guy’s a hoot: weddings are like grown up dances with alcohol
Posted by juplife on June 25, 2007

the gruber wedding last night was another classic. like most people who attended, i was dropped off by my dad. the ceremony was long. but not as long as the orlando wedding. at least this one has a good surprise in the form of fr. marty as priest. one of these days someone will call on me for religious duties.
the gruber’s did things right and started the ceremony immediately after the wedding. quite a few people who didn’t attend the wedding were at the cermony (see: beautiful dawn). caitlin, who arrived sans date, noticed a coincidence that proved key - her seat card was reserved for ms. caitlin james and dan. lucky for me, my brother just so happens to be named dan. with the early start, we had plenty of time to pick dr up and even get some batteries for meg’s camera.
upon our return, juplife all star, mike schoen, was waiting for us. he kept us fresh the rest of the night with tall blondes and bombs. it’s kind of what i’ve come to expect out of the coach.

there were quite a few friends-in-law in attendance. brittany antonio was one of my favorite subjects for the photos. she enjoyed posing for them and it pretty thrilled to make an appearance on juplife. so much in fact that she is going to come to nyc for the tri and chipotle underwear run.

aaron churchill and sarah skilliter, lindsay duncan, and allison shuster sat at our table as well. sarah was thrilled to find out that i do yoga. she even took the time to show dr and i her best downward facing pdog. it’s much better than mine. lindsay and i discussed the sadness in seeing the albon inn again close down.

shannon conrad and andrea staebell were in the wedding party but that didn’t prevent them from interacting with the less privileged. shannon and her dad formed the greatest dancing team at the wedding. they tore it up all night and i have enough photos of shannon to fill an album. i’d be her dad’s witness any day.
caitlin fulfilled her prophecy of nearly passing out on the dance floor. she truly is the best wedding date ever. it’s unfortunate for her that kate piv beat her out and won the opportunity to take me. it was probably just best that meg eliminated herself from the outset and declined any and all dates.
the night ultimately wasn’t perfect. that’s easy to conclude, since a man voluntarily gave up his life and decided to get married. but dr and i saluted his death in style. at some point though, it was decided that it isn’t possible to have as much fun as we were having sober. so dr was cut off and i was tagged as that guy who must constantly be monitored. coincidentally, dr snuck off early without notice and i, who apparently had that look in my eye that i was going to steal a car and drive home, got a ride from co-conspirator kate and met up with dr at the macqueen’s bonfire.

we got in some quick giggles with nick boyle, a few shotguns, and then headed to waffle house with one footed andy. surprisingly, they shut down their mexican kitchen for the night and we migrated to taco bell for some crunchwraps. one foot wasn’t in a giving mood though and shortly after ordering kicked us out of his car, stole our tbell, and forced us to walk home. it was an exciting walk which was cut short by kt’s arrival and immediately crushing reprimand of red.

dr and i were the big winners of the night. we’re an unstoppable force. no matter how much people try to bring us down they can’t. no one has more fun than us. every moment together is an adventure.
for the full play list, head over to flickr and check out the 600 photos i took at the wedding. there are also a couple videos on youtube.

one more of these and he’ll equal a full ironman
Posted by juplife on June 12, 2007

as many noticed, dr finally put all of his training to work this weekend and ran (is ran the right verb here?) his first half ironman triathlon. he did a sprint tri last year and this was quite a big step up. the half is a 1.2 mile swim, 54 (or so) mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. it’s pretty much insane.
the tri was for racing for recovery and was held up in monroe, mi. fellow domer and toledoan, geoff meyers also participated.
on sunday morning i woke up at 4:30 with dr so we could get to the race a little early. after little sleep the night before (i was just so excited i couldn’t sleep), it took a monster and d:30 to get me going. the race started shortly later than the posted 7:30 start time. it goes swim, bike, run.
dr had a good swim time, survived the bike, and dominated the run. it’s pretty ridiculous he did so well, with a final time of 5:18. after the bike i was amazed his legs were so fresh for the run. for a while there, when all of the fat chicks finished before him, i thought we lost him. apparently, not brave enough to just go man, he needed a few bathroom breaks.
my time was well spent though. all that sitting around reading in the sun. good times, sweet farmers tan. i’m not sure i’ll be ready to compete any time soon. but if some of the people there can complete a half i’ve got to be able to finish a sprint at the least.
all of the pictures are up on flickr and i’ll post the videos shortly.

remember that time pants cooked the food you like, hosted the tailgate, let you stay over night, visited you too often at school, learned how to text, took you to practice, made you feel uncomfortable when asking you about a gf or bf, cried when you left home, loved you more than should be possible. you probably do. cause it happens everyday.
