chris dyer: still the man

Posted by juplife on March 6, 2008

chris dyer and the st. francis fighting knights take on st. ed’s this saturday in the state hockey semifinals in columbus. i’ll be attending. who’s joining us.

below is a snippet of the game recap after sfs beat northview this past weekend to advance.

St. Francis de Sales senior forward Chris Dyer was the difference-maker again as he led the Knights’ charge into the semifinals of the state hockey tournament.

Dyer scored two goals, including the game-winner on a superb individual effort, in a 3-1 win over Northview in the district final last night at Tam O’Shanter.

St. Francis trailed 1-0 after one period, but Dyer tied it midway through the second. He then beat three Wildcat defenders and netted the decisive goal with 10:17 left.

St. Francis (19-13-4) will play Lakewood St. Edward in the state semifinal next Saturday in Columbus. St. Eds beat Cleveland St. Ignatius 2-0 last night.

“We would not be here without him,” St. Francis coach Brian Kinsella said. “Our team would play good, but we wouldn’t be as confident without him. With him in the lineup, we’re almost a goal up already. We know that his line will score at least a goal.”

the knights move on: dyer goes for 3

Posted by juplife on February 24, 2008

went to the st. francis vs. perrysburg hockey game last night with the parents and dywuan. chris dyer had another big game, finishing with a hat trick. they play next week against northview as they continue their march to the state championship.

dyer vs phs

in case the 3 goals didn’t convince you that chris is the real deal, here’s a video of him skating past and through everyone. incidentally he only had one penalty and didn’t make anyone bleed.

i did nearly get wawrzyniak’s goal on video too.

cousin chris: he’s kind of a big deal right now

Posted by juplife on February 14, 2008

chris dyer

chris dyer is busy making news for his hockey play again. the sfs hockey team has had quite a season and the toledo blade actually chose to notice a school not named st. johns. it’s a notable accomplishment for both the blade and st. francis.

chris was voted the mvp of his league this season, his first playing for st. francis. from the article:

Dyer has notched 37 goals and dished out 28 assists for a total of 65 points. He’s averaging 2.1 points per game.

the knights have been playing very well lately. they beat northview on consecutive weekends and had another big win recently against st. johns.  they should be a real threat to win the state championship. best of luck to chris and the knights as they begin their tournament run.

this year i’m thankful that i don’t have to smash a watermelon on my head:turkey bowl

everyone who didn’t show up at wildwood this morning sure missed a good game. team dyer ran uncle nate into the ground. if not for nate’s diving, i’m not sure we would have come out victorious though.

thanksgiving is my favorite holiday though. i can’t think of anything better than being allowed to gorge on all the food you can and sit around all day. ace. this year mikey helped me, or i helped him, whatever, with the pecan pies. coincidentally, they didn’t burn. off to dyer’s now to enoy the day.

chris dyer: he gets it from his dad

Posted by juplife on September 10, 2007

cousin chris dyer joined the (i think) state ranked st. francis soccer team this year. it’s a pretty impressive feat considering he hasn’t played organized soccer since 8th grade.

last week sfs was on bcsn. if you didn’t catch him then (i didn’t either), i’m sure they’ll be back on later this year. i’ll give you a better heads up on that. after all, as pants likes to remind me, you don’t want to miss the biggest kid on the field with a huge butt.

PHANTOMS SIGN DYER TO TENDER CONTRACT

Posted by juplife on April 26, 2007

Pictured with Chris Dyer (second from right) are: Phantoms Head Coach Bob Mainhardt, Jean Dyer (Chris’ mother) and Phantoms President and owner Bruce J. Zoldan.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Wednesday, Apr. 25, 2007) - The Mahoning Valley Phantoms have announced the signing of center Chris Dyer to a tender contract for the 2007-2008 season.

Dyer, a native of Sylvania, is a product of the Honeybaked Midget AAA hockey club. He led his team in scoring with 68 points on 29 goals and 39 assists and finished with a plus-16 in 69 games this season.

He is the son of Jean and Richard Dyer of Sylvania and is a junior at Toledo St. Francis DeSales High School.

“The coaching staff and the proximity to home were big reasons for me to come here,” Dyer said.

“He’s a highly-skilled all-around player,” Phantoms Assistant Coach Curtis Carr said. “A lot of the kids we see are either very skilled offensively or defensively. Chris has developed a complete game at both ends of the ice.”

For Dyer, a 5-foot-11, 190 pound forward, he feels his skills can pay immediate dividends for the Phantoms next season.

“I’m a hard-working defensive center, but I can put the puck in the net when needed,” Dyer said.

“He’s a good playmaker and probably the best face-off artist I’ve seen in a long time,” Carr said.

Dyer could be one of three Phantoms next season to hail from Sylvania. He would join right wing Alden Hirschfeld and defenseman Adam Snead. Both are graduates of Northview High School.

“It’s in a unique situation for players in the Toledo area because they’re so close to Detroit,” Carr said. “They’re able to play against high levels of Midget competition. Plus, the high school programs there are producing excellent players.”

After seeing the Phantoms play recently, Dyer noted those parts of his game that he will emphasize in the off-season.

“Certainly my quickness. If I can get in shape, I should be fine,” Dyer said. “But you can always improve your speed and quickness. The Phantoms play a really fast-paced game that’s very physical.”

Dyer is the sixth player to sign his North American Hockey League rights with the Phantoms for this fall.

He joins defenseman Zack Barbis (Mentor, Ohio), right wing Kurt Washnock (Whitney, Pa.), forward Vince Mihalek (Willowick, Ohio), defenseman John Houston (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and center Scott Moser (Tonawanda, N.Y.).

prison

Posted by juplife on March 27, 2007

went to the dyers tonight after another kick ass session of yoga. it was the usual prison break watch. next week is sadly the season finale. not sure what we’re going to do after.

this may be a sad time for pat since he spends most of his day laid out in his new crib. a couple weeks ago he busted his leg up in three places and now can’t move much. after all of that upcoming layin and crankin, it should only make his transition to college that much smoother. a year ago he was on pace to achieve sophomore status his freshmen year. now i think he’ll jump straight to junior year credit level. what a beast.

after a less serious tibia injury, chris has healed much quicker than expected. he should be back playing on the ice this wednesday. that is, unless he’s a girl.

PaJo’s knee. or what used to be his knee.
