cedar point trip xl 2008

Posted by juplife on August 5, 2008

made my somewhat annual trip to cedar point last week while katie was home. chuck thought it would be a good idea to take a few kids from his kids unlimited with us. it was fine until dywuan was included. although he did wear his limited edition toboggan shirt, he probably set a record for consecutive minutes crying at 68.

it was a decent time overall though. the most memorable moments revolved around dustin keeping tabs on roger, cameron, and stormin’ norman. our first coaster with the kids had him seated next to stormin’. the kids were a little young for the big ones so the gemini, we thought, was a good place to start. as we prepared for that first hill, stormin’s body went completely limp next to dustin. dustin’s encouragement to ‘keep your head up norman!’ couldn’t even get the kid to look. chuck and i, seated behind them, were worried that it induced a seizure and chuck was about to file his first insurance claim. luckily stormin’ made it through to the end and surprised us all when he said he loved the ride. stormin’ pulled through with the line of the day when we all made a pit stop in the bathroom and, after following dustin and me in, exclaimed, ‘don’t look at me dustin!’. good thing dustin stared straight ahead in proper bathroom etiquette.

remember when the iron dragon used to be a great ride. i guess it just doesn’t have the thrill it used to. check out roger, completely unamused…

amato family vacay: let’s get together and complain

Posted by juplife on July 3, 2007

with all of the random mobile blogs sent in over the weekend, i feel like a recap is in order. so here goes.

on friday i headed to huron to meet up with some of mikey’s siblings to hang out for some time. lack of communication left me unsure of the events and length of the weekend. however, after being called bush league by uncle kelly i decided i was going to stay over night friday to be the best amato i could be.

friday night we headed to the nhra race in norwalk. since we are amatos, we showed up an hour before it ended. we are also cheap asses and didn’t want to pay the $32 it would cost to get in. so instead we stood outside of the track to watch and hear the last few races. it was the first drag race i’ve ever been to and man was it loud. the race was followed by fireworks. good times.

saturday we performed a lot of relaxing. this was much needed on my part after being woken up several times through the night by cousin christian “the rock” and his snorting and screaming. the kids is nonstop carazy. bush league dr and the rest of the fam came back saturday. kt was even with after coming back from ND for the weekend.

that night we headed to jacob’s field for the tribe game. it was a good game. lots of hits and runs. pronk hit one out, cc sabathia pitcher, christian the butterball caught a ball cc threw into the stands, and i was confused for alex by a second cousin and got some free dippin’ dots - the ice cream of the future for the last 15 years. sadly, i was not allowed to visit tawny sitting 5 sections over at the end of the game or jackie who was working at local hero’s on the corner. there just wasn’t enough time. whatever dudes.

we came home that night and played some euchre, a strangely ohio game. dr was brought up to the bigs and stayed over night, effectively removing any sort of memory of the night from cousin val’s memory. uncle kelly had a good night and was very disappointed when dr and i made an amazing comeback to milk the cows all night.

sunday, dr and i did what we seem to do most this summer: golf. we were teamed up with john amato #1. that’s a very volatile combo. as long as you’re prepared to take his shit and give it right back, you should be ok though. his zen approach to golf didn’t fair too well though. at least he didn’t play the holes for me and we found some laughs in the midst of his constant, unwanted coaching.

after a corona pit stop on the way home, i was convinced that going to cedar point on monday was a good idea. so my one night sleepover turned into three nights and quite a few adventures.

cedar point was well worth it though. we got what i would consider cheap tickets ($35 each) at some grocery store in norwalk. the day was just clutch all over the place. upon inquiring about a fast pass (they don’t have it), we discovered the parent swap policy, which is the best thing ever. because of this find, dr and i rode every ride twice. next time you go to cedar point, you need to get one.

as luck would have it we ran into a few people to make the day even better. in line for our first ride, the top thrill dragster (too short), i recognized the family behind us. it was josh rolf’s stepdad and his uncle. so we gave josh a call and convinced uncle dave to drive us home to t-town that night since the real was leaving early. perfect. then, after a shotgun lunch, we ran into the man everyone hopes to see when at cedar point, nick whit. he jumped on the raptor with us for one last ride before leaving us for the rest of the summer.

the new ride, maverick, was the best ride at the park. i still love the raptor (front seat is best two times), magnum xl200, iron dragon, though. the skyhawk is definitely the most underrated ride in the park. the line is short and it gets your stomach good. uncle kelly does not recommend pounding burgers before riding.

dr and i arrived at home around 1 am after riding three across in uncle dave’s truck. it was great though and hopefully pdog can handle it when we take him there in august.

got a lot of catching up to do now after taking yesterday off and with the festivities in line tonight and tomorrow. in the meantime, you can catch up with all of the photos on flickr and there should be a few youtube videos soon.

better be ready for a big one this weekend though. our kid finally turns 21. and unless he’s a moron like rohn, he should stay out of further trouble.
