as many noticed, dr finally put all of his training to work this weekend and ran (is ran the right verb here?) his first half ironman triathlon. he did a sprint tri last year and this was quite a big step up. the half is a 1.2 mile swim, 54 (or so) mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. it’s pretty much insane.
the tri was for racing for recovery and was held up in monroe, mi. fellow domer and toledoan, geoff meyers also participated.
on sunday morning i woke up at 4:30 with dr so we could get to the race a little early. after little sleep the night before (i was just so excited i couldn’t sleep), it took a monster and d:30 to get me going. the race started shortly later than the posted 7:30 start time. it goes swim, bike, run.
dr had a good swim time, survived the bike, and dominated the run. it’s pretty ridiculous he did so well, with a final time of 5:18. after the bike i was amazed his legs were so fresh for the run. for a while there, when all of the fat chicks finished before him, i thought we lost him. apparently, not brave enough to just go man, he needed a few bathroom breaks.
my time was well spent though. all that sitting around reading in the sun. good times, sweet farmers tan. i’m not sure i’ll be ready to compete any time soon. but if some of the people there can complete a half i’ve got to be able to finish a sprint at the least.
all of the pictures are up on flickr and i’ll post the videos shortly.

remember that time pants cooked the food you like, hosted the tailgate, let you stay over night, visited you too often at school, learned how to text, took you to practice, made you feel uncomfortable when asking you about a gf or bf, cried when you left home, loved you more than should be possible. you probably do. cause it happens everyday.
