found this clipping from the blade while going through some old folders today. mikey originally sent it to me last year when i was in paris.
the caption and picture on amaechi brought something to mind. i found it strange how somehow, through the whole john amaechi coming out of the closet thing, it escaped that he went to high school in toledo (even if it was for just one year).
this upsets me for two reasons. one, its always fun to have toledo in the news. especially international, progressive news like this. hopefully someday toledo finds itself in the news for reasons other than katie holmes, jamie farr, and our mayor.
reason two is the is the local dynamic of toledo high schools. i’m not sure how it is in other cities, but when i was in high school it was definitely fun to make insinuations about the sexual orientation of the guys who went to single sex high schools. i just think the sports blogs should have caught this.
ironically, amaechi came to toledo because of a cchs contact.
remember that time pants cooked the food you like, hosted the tailgate, let you stay over night, visited you too often at school, learned how to text, took you to practice, made you feel uncomfortable when asking you about a gf or bf, cried when you left home, loved you more than should be possible. you probably do. cause it happens everyday.
